Description
Position OverviewThe Jayhawk Debate Institute is a summer workshop to prepare high school students for policy debate on the 2025-26 National Speech and Debate Association resolution. Assistant Lab Leaders will work as support instructors under the direction of Lab Leaders. The Assistant Lab leader will assist in providing students with instruction on the 2025-26 NSDA policy debate resolution. Responsibilities will include supervising student research, conducting skill development drills, judging practice and tournament debates, and providing direct instruction of students in an assigned cohort. This is a full-time, temporary staff position that begins June 21, 2026, and ends by July 10, 2026.
The Jayhawk Debate Institute will occur this year on the following dates:
Two-week camp runs June 21 - July 3, 2026.
Three-week camp runs June 21 - July 10, 2026.
Job Description
75% - Lab Assistant
- Assist lab leaders in developing arguments and conducting research.
- Assist students in their research assignments.
- Provide lectures to lab at request of lab leaders.
25% - Other
- Judge tournament debates.
- Judge practice debates.
- Must be able to listen to and follow directions.
- Must be able to take on a position of authority.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Must have extensive policy debate experience at both the high school and college (NDT/CEDA) levels, as evidenced by application materials
