Position Overview: The Mental Health/Protective Service Advocate is responsible for investigating reports of abuse of the elder and coordinating appropriate protective service plans, crises support, and compliance with protective service mandates.
Position Responsibilities: Receives and reviews intake reports regarding the abuse of elderly persons. Responds to emergencies when necessary with supervisory support. Completes thorough investigation of abuse allegations, risks to elders and elder's needs. Evaluates the functional capacity, situations, and resources of the abused elderly person, or assists in arranging for evaluations including competency evaluations if needed. Pursues legal counsel and/or advice to obtain necessary legal action such as protective orders and guardianship through the courts.. Provides education to the community and other service providers on elder abuse mandates and issues. You will also conduct home visits as necessary. Participates in on-call for off hours and weekends.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Pay Range: $28-$29.50

Requirements
Qualifications:
*Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field with two (2) years of related experience required
*Previous firsthand experience dealing with high risk/crisis situations, previous knowledge and/or work experience in the Case Management or Behavioral Health field required.
*Requires flexibility, availability and the ability to work a rotating work schedule for on-call coverage, after hours and weekend coverage when necessary
*Effective documentation skills with the ability to complete documentation that is timely, accurate and comprehensive
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with team members, consumers and their support systems, providers and business partners
*Critical thinking, solid communication and assessment skills are a necessary function of the position when responding to a crisis.
*Valid driver's license and reliable transportation with the ability to conduct home visits (or attend community events and business) throughout the GLSS service area
*Knowledge of community resources preferred.
*Ability to actively participate in an interdisciplinary team environment
*Proficient in the use of computer systems, including but not limited to, Windows based software application including but not limited to Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook .
*Ability to process information accurately and to make appropriate decisions based on the specific situation and circumstances
*Demonstrates a strong work ethic, dependability and commitment to consistently meeting responsibilities and deadlines
*Ability to work in multicultural environments with consumers with diverse health, and behavioral health needs preferred
*Professional demeanor with the ability to handle confidential information and documents with discretion and according to GLSS policy and HIPAA guidelines
*Bilingual a plus
