The Medical Director of the Princeton Medicine Hospitalist Service provides strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and operational management of the hospitalist program. This role combines administrative leadership with direct patient care responsibilities, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care for both inpatient and observation patients. The Medical Director plays a key role in medical education, providing supervision and mentorship to medical students, residents, and physician assistant students.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Program Oversight
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the hospitalist service, including scheduling, physician engagement, and program coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for hospitalist service-related issues
- Collaborate with residency program leadership and student clerkship directors
- Lead recruitment and retention efforts for hospitalist physicians
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to hospitalists
- Coordinate continuing medical education (CME) and professional development initiatives
Clinical Oversight & Patient Care
- Provide direct patient care, including rounding on general internal medicine inpatient services
- Maintain accountability for assigned patients, ensuring high standards of care
- Supervise hospitalists and ensure adherence to clinical best practices
- Perform internal medicine consultations as requested
- Ensure accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in the electronic medical record
- Oversee discharge planning, ensuring summaries are completed within required timeframes
Education & Academic Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor residents, medical students, and physician assistant students
- Deliver education and training to the interdisciplinary care team
- Maintain active faculty status at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
- Participate in academic and departmental meetings
Quality, Operations & Collaboration
- Partner with care coordination, utilization management, and nursing leadership to optimize patient care
- Lead and support quality improvement and performance initiatives
- Develop and implement clinical pathways and best practices
- Ensure appropriate resource utilization and patient length of stay
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and referring physicians
- Serve as a liaison to community providers to support service growth
Administrative & Organizational Engagement
- Participate in committee, board, and departmental meetings
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning initiatives
- Engage in faculty practice and hospital medicine section meetings
- Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and bylaws
Qualifications
- MD or DO with board certification in Internal Medicine
- Significant experience in hospital medicine, with prior leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, education, and quality improvement
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Salary Range:
$15,080.00 - $520,000.00/Annually based on 40 hours per week
