About the Role
The Cutty Sark is a family-owned and operated motel that has been a staple of York Beach, Maine, since the 1970s. We are seeking a reliable and capable Overnight Guest Attendant to be the primary caretaker of our 42-room seaside property during the overnight hours. At The Cutty Sark, we pride ourselves on providing a peaceful, seamless guest experience "where the lawn meets the Atlantic".
This is an active role for an independent, "handy" individual who enjoys problem-solving. You aren't just watching a desk; you are the "First Responder" ensuring that if a guest has an issue at 2:00 AM—from a parking conflict to a tech issue—you have the drive to fix it on the spot.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Troubleshooting: Act as the sole staff member responsible for handling late-night arrivals, assisting with luggage, and addressing all guest concerns with a hospitable demeanor.
The "Fixer" (Light Maintenance): Handle basic "on-the-fly" maintenance, such as troubleshooting A/C units, addressing minor plumbing issues (clogged toilets/slow drains), and providing tech support for Wi-Fi or TV issues.
Safety & Security: Conduct regular "quiet rounds" of the lawn, hallways, and parking lot to enforce "Quiet Hours" and ensure the property remains secure.
Parking Management: Actively manage the parking lot by directing late arrivals to appropriate spots.
Property Upkeep: Perform light cleaning in common areas, manage laundry, and handle trash to keep the grounds pristine.
Morning Setup: Help the morning team "set the stage" by prepping the coffee service and tidying for the morning crew.
Communication & Emergency Response: Maintain a detailed Night Log noting maintenance issues, guest requests, or parking incidents that need attention the following day. You will be the primary contact for any medical or maintenance emergencies on-site including the critical judgment to determine when a situation requires immediate contact with ownership versus what can wait for the morning shift.
Position Details
Type: Seasonal (June – Sept).
Schedule: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
Location: York Beach, Maine.

Requirements & Qualifications
Handy & Proactive: Comfortable using basic tools and not intimidated by malfunctioning appliances.
Extreme Reliability: As the only person on-site overnight, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility are non-negotiable.
Firm but Professional: Ability to enforce rules with a calm, authoritative, and helpful attitude.
Communication Skills: Basic phone and computer skills are required to manage logs and guest requests.
Flexibility: Ability to work weekends and holidays throughout the season.
