Description
Outreach Workers play a vital role in connecting young adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability with life-changing resources. Working as part of a outreach team, this position involves engaging youth on the street in areas where they are known to congregate — such as parks, encampments, and community hubs — to provide crisis intervention, basic needs assistance, and referrals to housing and supportive services. The program is hiring 2 Outreach Workers, these positions are 32 hours a week. These positions will work Tuesday through Friday 3:30p-10:30p and Saturdays 4:00p-11p.
What you’ll do
Build strong relationships with young people to understand their needs and challenges.
Conduct outreach activities to promote available services and programs within the community.
Provide harm reduction supplies, hygiene kits and other basic needs items.
Complete initial and ongoing assessments of program participants
Collaborate with local Homeless Outreach teams.
Assist in crisis intervention and safety planning when appropriate.
Maintain accurate documentation of contacts, services, and referrals in HMIS and internal systems.
Uphold all safety protocols during outreach activities.
Requirements
H.S. Diploma required. Degree in human service or related field preferred.
Two years of professional experience in human service field.
At least one year experience working with youth.
Outreach and/or Counseling experience and experience working within a diverse team preferred.
Bilingual a plus.
Strong skills in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
