Description
We are a private ophthalmology practice specializing in cataract surgery in Yorktown Heights, NY seeking an ophthalmic assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities:
Patient Interaction & Clinical Intake
- Greet and communicate with patients and their families in a manner consistent with caring and respect.
- Initiate patient evaluations by accurately documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent information.
- Coordinate and obtain prior authorizations for medications in accordance with insurance requirements to ensure timely patient access to prescribed treatments.
- Perform front desk duties including scheduling appointments, answering phones, and triaging patient emergencies.
Pre-Exam & Diagnostic Testing
- Perform pre-exam testing, including visual acuity assessment (with pinhole and glare testing), confrontational visual fields, pupillary evaluation, applanation, tonometry, angle assessment, and dilation.
- Conduct advanced diagnostic testing such as OCT, visual field testing, IOL Master and Topography.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Maintain and manage inventory of ophthalmic supplies, pharmaceuticals, and instruments.
- Inspect and assist with the maintenance of clinical examination equipment, report damage, coordinate repairs, and request replacements as necessary.
- Properly shut down and clean diagnostic testing equipment as needed.
Clinic Readiness & Administrative Support
- Open and close exam rooms daily, including cleaning equipment, charging devices, and securing instruments.
- Assist with opening and closing the practice as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and practice procedures.
- Monitor and respond to work emails; utilize shared tools such as Google Drive to stay informed throughout the workday.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of all health information.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to commit to 2+ years
- 1-2 years experience in a medical office
We will train outstanding candidates without prior experience if necessary.
*Hourly wage is determined by applicant's experience and certifications.
