POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as a clinical leader responsible for providing support, guidance, and direction to nursing staff.
Responsible for overseeing the quality of patient care, maintaining staff competence and efficiency, and
providing guidance and leadership to the nursing team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as the liaison between medical staff. Coordinate with Administrator the interviewing, hiring,
and onboarding of new medical personnel. - Provide orientation and training to new staff.
- Coordinate the scheduling of nursing staff and the assignment of daily tasks.
- Develop and maintain ongoing staff development activities and training, as well as annual
competencies for clinical staff. - For ongoing quality improvement, conduct regular audits of medical charts, controlled substance
logs, and other documentation for deficiencies. - Conduct periodic reviews of protocols and make recommendations to the medical director and
nurse practitioner. - Collaborate with MAT NP to provide oversight of MAT/SCORF Program.
Assist Medical Administrator and other SMC Researcher with SCORF data tracking and outcomes
measures. - Serve as liaison with ReGenesis, the Forrester Center, AccessHealth and other community
partners to support the MAT Program. - Manage medical supply inventory and submit orders as required.
- Serve as liaison to SC DOC, the USMS and other partnering facilities to facilitate inmate
movement, oversee data reporting/medical requests, and address inmate concerns. - Assist clinical staff and med techs to rectify med order concerns with contract pharmacy providers.
In the absence of the Medical Administrator, serve as the representative of the medical department
to scheduled department and community meetings. - In the absence of the Medical Administrator, serve as the back-up for timecard approvals and
submissions.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Will oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing staff to ensure that proper patient care is being
provided and that all protocols, policies and procedures are being followed.
Serving as the link between clinical staff and administration, the Nurse Supervisor will facilitate clear
communication and a collaborative work environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible
amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, lifting, fingering,
grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging
ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken
word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data,
determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and
activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Associate’s degree in nursing with licensure as a Registered Nurse accepted by the
South Carolina Board of Nursing. At least one year nursing experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing with licensure as a Registered Nurse accepted by the
South Carolina Board of Nursing.
One-year clinical experience in a detention/correctional facility and prior leadership or supervisory
experience preferred.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to
participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina
