About the College/Unit/Department
The Office of University Architects ( OUA ) is responsible for the development and management of the campus master plan, including transportation planning, historic preservation planning, environmental planning, and precinct planning; the development and management of campus site design and architectural standards; GIS management of existing conditions; and the coordination and project management of major capital projects for all of the UGA campuses across the state.

Position Summary
The position provides assistance and support to other Project Managers in the Office of University Architects ( OUA ) as needed for a successful implementation of design and construction goals for facilities, grounds, and infrastructure at the University of Georgia main campus and peripheral properties. This includes, but is not limited to, gathering and processing information regarding program requirements and program development, site and facility design development, final construction documents creation, review, and critique of design and construction documents, generation and review of equipment and materials lists, and providing assistance in construction administration for a number of projects in various stages of development.
While the majority of the time in this position will be spent in supporting and assisting other project managers as directed, there may be an opportunity to lead and manage some projects of a smaller scope.
This position has a limited appointment, which is expected to end two years after the start date. The appointment may be extended if the volume & complexity of projects continue to be high and if so desired by the OUA .
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of architecture.
- Considerable knowledge of modern building construction methods and materials.
- Considerable knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of architectural drafting.
- Some knowledge of the principles and methods of surveying and inspecting sites and buildings, preparatory to planning and designing.
- Ability to prepare architectural designs, plans, and specifications, using a variety of programs.
- Basic understanding of structural principles used in developing designs for buildings.
- Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough sketches and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel.
- Skill in designing alterations to buildings and structures and in preparing accurate drawings and specifications.

- Perform tasks needed for all stages of the project, from programming to project close-out, such as planning, budgeting, scheduling, design, and construction of assigned projects.

- Prepare or assist in preparing materials needed to successfully communicate project status with USG Board of Regents staff, university leadership and personnel, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors, and material and equipment vendors.
- Generation of sketches, providing comments via redlining of construction documents, assembling presentation material for digital and print display are common practices and forms of communicating ideas to others.
- Some technical drafting and the generation of construction quality drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and/or other visualization software may be needed.
- Assembling spreadsheets for furniture, materials, equipment, and providing cost/budget review & summarization for these and any other project items as requested.
- Deliver information via oral, written, and graphic communication as necessary to support project management efforts.

- The employee will prepare contracts and gather/prepare other information regarding program, design, final construction documents, equipment lists, and construction administration for a number of projects, which are at various stages of development.

- Lead and manage some projects of a smaller scope, ensuring effective coordination, scheduling, and execution.
- Coordinate with faculty, administrative personnel, and external agencies on smaller-scale design and construction plans.
- Supervise and participate in the preparation and maintenance of cost records for smaller scope projects, supporting the development of accurate cost estimates.
- Ensure that smaller scope projects remain within established project budgets and manage the project budget for each assigned project.
- Assist and participate in the preparation and maintenance of the project schedule.

- The employee will visit and observe activity on construction sites and attend Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings to provide assistance and backup to other project managers as needed.
- The employee will take notes of observations and generate a log of items that require University follow-up.
