Description

This position will encompass several areas of activity, with the major component devoted to clinical and pre-clinical teaching of endodontics in a general dentistry model.  Teaching responsibilities will focus on the supervision of students and faculty as patient/simulated patient care activities are conducted, student evaluation and assessment in the College’s patient/simulation clinics.



Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Care.  The primary areas of responsibility will be:

  • Clinical/SimClinic teaching utilizing a proactive and engaged learning model
  • Didactic teaching utilizing Mastery Learning
  • Utilize evidence-based science in didactic and clinical teaching
  • Integrate Biomedical Science in didactic and clinical teaching
  • Overseeing and providing direct patient care as needed in the College’s clinics
  • Overseeing and providing direct simulated patient care as needed in the College’s SimClinic
  • Manage and assess student progress toward competency
  • Required to be standardized in Clinic/SimClinic operation and approved treatment modalities
  • Calibrate/Certify all faculty to the standardized CODM endodontic curriculum within one year of hire. Adapt to current and future technologies utilized at the CODM.
  • Serve on appropriate committees
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Reliable and timely with the expectation of 40+ hours per week on site

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individual must possess the knowledge and following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Supervisory and leadership skills and experience
  • Public speaking skills, including experience in classroom teaching
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and laws/regulations pertaining to the practice of dentistry in Utah

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD degree from a CODA accredited US or Canadian dental school or equivalent
  • Must be eligible for licensure in Utah at the time of application and receive licensure within 3 months of hire
  • Completion of a CODA-approved, post-doctoral residency in general dentistry (GPR or AEGD) is preferred, along with teaching experience at the pre-doctoral level

Work Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between local campus buildings, off campus, and to other Roseman University facilities out-of-state.
  • Performing duties and attending events outside the normally scheduled work hours occasionally occurs and is required.
  • Traveling off-campus to a local, state, regional and/or national event, as well as travel to other Roseman campuses or facilities occurs occasionally and is required.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones, office machines, and nearby oral communications among University personnel and/or students.
  • Work hours may vary due to clinic schedules

Required Physical Abilities

  • Ability to stand for a long period of time and move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis.
  • Manual and physical dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and perform up-to-date dental procedures
  • Sufficient near vision acuity to read information appearing on computer display screen, hand-written forms, and printed on paper.
  • Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to lift and carry a stack of forms and documents weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to manage care/simulated care for multiple patients/simulated patients and assessment of multiple student teams throughout the entire clinic/simclinic session. This would include standing throughout the entire instructional period.  Additionally, providing direct patient/simulated patient care as needed.
