What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a R&D Computer Scientist/Software Engineer that would be responsible for deploying high-impact and high-consequence national security capabilities supporting surety applications. Your work will directly impact advanced technologies for weapon-related systems.

You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to the relentless pursuit of exceptional service in the national interest. We are seeking individuals who thrive in a team environment, who are dedicated to improving National Security, and demonstrate desire to learn new skills and applications. We are particularly interested in individuals who take great pride in the quality of their code and the products our team produces.

You will need to have strong software engineering skills, including an understanding of the software lifecycle, requirements engineering, verification and validation, configuration, and change management. The successful candidate should be able to learn and execute the development methodologies and engineering practices being used by the established team and contribute to improving and refining those practices and processes.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Design, implement, and deploy desktop applications in direct support of our nations nuclear deterrent
• Work independently with little oversight as well as collaboratively on an Agile team with others of diverse and multi-disciplinary skill sets.
• Learn about and implement information assurance concepts key to our nuclear deterrent
• Partner with both hardware, systems, and software engineers
• Troubleshoot complicated issues in dynamic environments

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance with Sigma-15 caveat

Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D S&E Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
• Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.

About Our Team

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an experienced Software Developer to join the Code Management System (CMS) team. CMS is used by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to manage Permissive Action Link (PAL) codes and keys and to support critical nuclear weapon operations (e.g., recode/rekey, Limited Life Component Exchange (LLCE), training, deployment readiness, and assembly/disassembly). The system helps ensure authorized use and prevents unauthorized use of air-delivered weapons.

Staff in this department develop custom software solutions in support of the DOE/DoD Use Control community and specialize in high assurance software design solutions with emphasis on security and reliability. The department specializes in complex embedded, application and GUI software, trusted processing, crypto algorithms, and database management.

The selected individual will be responsible for design and development of software products.

Security Clearance
