Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) – Private Family Position
Location: Harrison, New York
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $31.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time or Part-time
Work Setting: In-person, private home
Available Shifts
Weekdays (Monday–Friday)
- Morning: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM (6 hours)
- Afternoon: 1:30 PM – 7:30 PM (6 hours)
- Evening: 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM (3 hours)
- Overnight: 10:30 PM – 7:30 AM (9 hours)
Weekends (Saturday–Sunday)
- Morning: 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM (7 hours)
- Afternoon: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM (3 hours)
- Evening: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM (5 hours)
- Overnight: 10:30 PM – 7:30 AM (9 hours)
Position Overview
We are a private family located in Harrison, New York seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or ABA-trained professional to provide individualized support for our son, an adult male with autism.
Our son is in his mid-30s with limited verbal communication skills, though he is able to effectively express his needs and preferences. He connects with others in his own way and enjoys social gatherings, especially with family. He thrives in structured environments and finds comfort in repetition and familiar routines. He is persistent and does not give up easily.
He enjoys listening to music, going on walks, and participating in cooking classes. He takes pride in being tidy and consistently demonstrates good manners in his interactions.
At times, he may display behaviors such as yelling, repeating phrases, or attempting to access desired items. These behaviors are typically forms of communication. With proper support, structure, and understanding, he is able to engage positively in daily routines.

Key Responsibilities
Behavioral and Skill Development
- Implement ABA-based behavioral and skill-building programs designed by supervising professionals
- Teach and reinforce functional living skills, including:
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Meal preparation and kitchen safety
- Household tasks and organization
- Time management and routines
- Support development of academic, cognitive, and individualized goals
- Promote independence, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
Behavior Support
- Follow Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Utilize evidence-based ABA techniques, including:
- Positive reinforcement
- Prompting and fading
- Task analysis
- Data-driven instruction
- Maintain a calm and supportive environment during behavioral challenges
Data Collection and Documentation
- Accurately collect and record behavioral and skill acquisition data
- Monitor progress toward goals
- Communicate updates to family and supervising professionals
Collaboration
- Work closely with family members and care team
- Provide feedback to enhance routines and skill-building opportunities
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings as needed
Community and Social Support
- Assist with transportation to appointments and activities
- Encourage participation in community and social settings
- Support real-world communication and social skill development
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or equivalent ABA training
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of ABA principles and behavior intervention strategies
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently in a home-based setting
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred)
Additional Requirements
- Ability to commute to Harrison, New York
- Live-in option may be available if commuting is not practical
- Willingness to travel locally (approximately 25% of the time)
- Comfortable working in a home-based environment
