Description
Professional orchestral musicians are primarily responsible for performing accurately according to the score under the conductor’s guidance, and collaborating with other members to deliver high-level performances. Musicians are expected to maintain advanced technical skills, focus, strong teamwork, and participate in education and outreach activities, including mentoring the National Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performance and Rehearsal
Perform precisely the assigned instrument parts under the conductor’s guidance.
Collaborate with other musicians to ensure ensemble accuracy and musical cohesion.
Attend scheduled rehearsals and understand the conductor’s interpretation of the music.
2. Technical Skills and Musical Expression
Maintain high-level technical proficiency to handle diverse repertoire.
Demonstrate musical expression and maintain focus during performances.
3. Team Collaboration
Work with members of the same instrument section to form a professional section.
Collaborate with the full orchestra during large-scale performances to create a complete orchestral sound.
4. Education and Outreach
Participate in the orchestra’s educational and community outreach activities, including music lectures, school performances, and community engagement.
Mentor National Youth Symphony Orchestra members, providing professional instruction and ensemble guidance.
Enhance public understanding and appreciation of classical music through educational activities.
Requirements
Application:

Audition Date:
Principal Percussion: 9:00 a.m., January 19, 2026.
Principal Double Bass: 9:00 a.m., January 20, 2026.
No video audition will be accepted.
Applicants will receive all necessary audition information by email prior to January 13, 2026.
Audition Location:
NSO Rehearsal Room, 3rd Floor, National Concert Hall (Address: No. 21-1, Chung-Shan South Road, Taipei 100012, Taiwan.)
Process:
Multiple rounds of auditions will be held.
In addition to the auditions, the finalist(s) will be required to play concert with NSO including rehearsals and performance in 2025/2026 Season.

If Piano accompaniment is needed, please bring your own.
b. Orchestral Excerpts
c. Sight Reading
d. Concerts (for finalists)
For the finalists who currently live abroad, the orchestra will pay for the round-trip economy air tickets and accommodation for coming to Taiwan.
The winner of the audition will be expected to be on board within the oer notice. A basic physical examination report issued by a municipal hospital is required.
Notice:Due to visa requirements, foreign applicants must have related work experience.
