Works under general supervision of Manager of Plans Review to supervise Plans Examiners (I and II) reviewing and approving simple to highly complex designs of dwellings apartments mobile homes commercial assembly industrial schools and subdivision plans for code compliance and issuing building demolition use and occupancy permits.

Requirements

Ten (10) years of experience in building construction, building drafting, building design or related field and high school diploma or possess a GED; OR
Six (6) years of experience in building construction, building drafting, building design or related field and bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or architecture, with experience in full time architecture or engineering preferred; OR
An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
Certification as a Certified Building Official or Master Code Professional may substitute for degree requirement.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Must possess or obtain ICC certification as a Plans Examiner or Inspector in at least three areas of building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing codes within two (2) years of hire date, one of which must be obtained within the first six (6) months.

Must be resident of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment.
