As a Level II OB/GYN Professional Fee Coder, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, compliant coding of clinician services across obstetric, gynecologic, and reproductive health encounters. You'll collaborate with coding leadership, OB/GYN providers, and the broader Enterprise Coding Team — all while enjoying the flexibility of a telecommuting position.
What You'll Do
Core OB/GYN Coding Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation for OB/GYN encounters including prenatal visits, postpartum care, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, LEEP, ultrasound, minor gynecologic procedures, and office E&M encounters.
- Assign accurate CPT, ICD 10 CM, and HCPCS codes for:
- Global obstetric packages
- Obstetric ultrasounds and fetal monitoring
- Gynecologic office procedures
- Family planning and reproductive health services
- Preventive women's health visits
- Problem focused OB/GYN E&M encounters
- Validate correct billing of OB packages including prenatal visits, and postpartum care.
- Maintain processes and controls for OB/GYN coding and billing within assigned work queues.
- Ensure all coding complies with CMS, payer specific rules, ACOG guidance, and specialty compliance standards.
- Collaborate with leads and supervisors regarding specialty specific questions and workflow priorities.
- Develop and share written procedures to improve OB/GYN coding workflows and support team training.
Department & Team Support
- Serve as a resource for OB/GYN coding questions, documentation needs, bundling rules, and billing policies.
- Attend coding meetings, OB/GYN education sessions, seminars, and team huddles; share learning with peers.
- Partner with leadership to improve provider documentation for OB and GYN services.
- Participate in specialty and system wide education sessions, maintain CEUs, and stay informed on trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum two years of hospital or professional services (dependent on position) experience reviewing, abstracting, and coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA:
- AAPC (e.g., CPC; COBGC strongly preferred) OR
- AHIMA (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CCS)
- Active membership with AAPC or AHIMA.
- Ability to pass an internal coding assessment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited coding program (AAPC or AHIMA).
- In depth knowledge of:
- OB package billing rules
- CPT/ICD 10 CM guidelines for OB/GYN
- CCI edits, NCD/LCD, payer specific policies
- Experience using Epic and 3M Encoder.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with providers and clinical teams.
- Coursework in anatomy/physiology, reproductive anatomy, medical terminology, and procedural coding.

Schedule & Work Environment
- Telecommuting position with variable days.
- Core operating hours: MondayFriday, 5:00am10:00pm. Your regularly scheduled hours must fall within this range.
- May include rotating weekend coverage.
