General Maintenance WorkerJob Summary
The General Maintenance Worker supports a safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant healthcare environment by operating, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of building systems and equipment. This position ensures all facility areas remain functional and safe for patients, visitors, and staff through preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and accurate documentation.
- Shift: 4 x 10-hour shifts
- Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9pm-7am (overnight shift)
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems and equipment that support clinical and non-clinical operations.
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, motors, pumps, lighting, and structural components.
- Conduct regular HVAC filter changes, belt inspections, and air handling unit checks to ensure optimal performance and air quality.
- Perform hood inspections and maintenance of kitchen, lab, and exhaust systems to ensure compliance with healthcare safety codes.
- Carry out general facility maintenance, including carpentry, painting, flooring, and equipment upkeep.
- Perform required safety testing and documentation in compliance with Joint Commission, NFPA, and local/state regulations.
- Access and maintain roof areas, basements, equipment rooms, tunnels, and other restricted areas as needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications for diagnosis and repair.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
- Conduct building inspections and recommend repairs, upgrades, or replacements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and materials used through the facility's work order system.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of facility maintenance experience, in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, and building codes, with the ability to interpret technical documents.
- Must be able to work independently during overnight hours and respond to urgent maintenance needs.
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in tight or elevated spaces as required.
- Must be able to pass a local background check and have the ability to obtain and maintain NACI/LAC clearance after hire.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of assigned spaces, assist others as part of the maintenance team as required and perform other duties assigned according to personal qualifications.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in both patientcare and support areas, indoors and outdoors, and may involve exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
