Position Summary:
The Executive Associate Dean is a key position within the School of Dentistry, responsible for overseeing the operational functions that support the strategic plan and mission of the School. This role involves collaboration
with the Dental Executive Committee (DEC), development of systems for operational efficiency, and alignment
of personnel with the School's goals. The Executive Associate Dean may act on behalf of the Dean/Vice Dean.
Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):
The Executive Associate Dean proactively manages the workflow of the Dean and Vice Dean, accompanies the Dean/Vice Dean to meetings, trips and events, and actively assists in stewarding and deepening relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
Responsibilities include:
Acting as a liaison between academic and administrative functions of the School.
Promoting the School's mission throughout the institution and community.
Driving performance measures for strategic planning.
Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
Facilitating operational activities for various programs of the School.
Collaborating with other leaders on campus-wide academic priorities and goals.
Other tasks as required.
The Executive Associate Dean is a member of the DEC and is responsible for the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the School by being responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the systems that will lead to the full execution of the strategic plan. This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor rank.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills
An understanding of the accreditation process of universities
An understanding of laws and regulations related to both universities and healthcare facilities, such as FERPA and HIPAA
Strong abilities in strategic and critical thinking
Ability to cultivate strong relationships with various stakeholders and create an environment that fosters collaboration, trust and accountability
Ability to represent the School of Dentistry with professionalism and strong presentation skills to outside partners and the wider college
Education and Experience Required:
An earned doctoral degree in dentistry or an appropriate health-related field from an accredited U.S or
Canadian school
A minimum of 5 years of prior academic administrative experience with evidence of increasing
administrative responsibility
Prior organizational and/or program planning experience
Prior experiences with organizational strategic planning and implementation
At least five years of teaching experience at the predoctoral and/or graduate level
Experience with curriculum development and revision
Experience with accreditation self-study and preparation of reports for boards, accreditation, and regulatory
agencies
Experience in program evaluation and outcomes assessment
Education and Experience Preferred:
Experience with accreditation self-study and preparation of reports for boards, accreditation, and regulatory
agencies such as the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
Evidence of ability to advance access to training in oral health fields through teaching, research/scholarship
and/or service
An earned doctoral degree in dentistry from an accredited U.S or Canadian school
At least ten years of teaching experience at the predoctoral level
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:
Evidence of Continuing Education

Licensure, Certification or Registration Preferred:
Tennessee Dental License or eligibility to become Licensed
BLS Certificate
